The
practical disappearing age old tradition of appeasing Goling Zeeling Nagpo at
Nyakhar is rejuvenated again this year. Khenrinpoche Rigzin Wangchuk initiated
the restoration of the site cleaning and installing small Lu-Bum (small Stupa).
The
villagers contributed the customary labor. Sanctified the site and offerings
made, people and its culture reconnected to the lost traditions the village
once trusted its jubilation.
Goling
Zeeling Nagpo and Tshenchen Dralha Gurchung were two deities whom Nyakhar Dung
has relied on during good and bad times.
Goling
Zeeling Nagpo is deity allied on a pond like water similar to that of Lu (Earth
Goddess). Many decades ago, the village fetches drinking water from this very
pond. A celebratory tradition was once lively with people gathering, expressing
gratitude for the lifesaving water it has to offer for everyone by appeasing with
various offerings.
It
is believed that people from Tsheldang also gather at Nyakhar during this event
bringing along with them the nine grains as an offering to Goling Zeeling
Nagpo. As we hear from elders’ narrations, it was an annual event since Nyakhar
Dung time celebrated on the fifteen day of fifth month.
The
culture of appeasing Goling Zeeling Nagpo was dormant if not kind of lost for
many years. The easy water supply at door steps somehow contributed to the
disruption of the tradition.
Thanks to the Khenripoche for his noble initiative.
